Problem

In May 2025, a concerned client of a Buckinghamshire leasing company reported her leased vehicle as stolen. The theft occurred in the early hours of the morning in a rural area, while the keys were still on the table inside the keeper's home. Due to this, it looked to have been stolen using a modern relay system. 

Action & Results

Fortunately, the vehicle was fitted with a Radius asset recovery tracker, which the thieves had missed. As soon as the Radius unit updated, it emitted a strong GPS signal in Luton, only a couple of miles from the M1. Our team responded swiftly, and a Radius Investigator was dispatched to the area, arriving at 11:45 hrs. 

 Upon arrival, the stolen vehicle was found parked and secure on the road outside a row of houses. There was no visible damage to the vehicle, nor any indication that it had been searched for a tracking unit. Arrangements were made with the client to attend later with their keys and collect the vehicle. They also confirmed that nothing had been stolen. 

Conclusion

This incident highlights the crucial role of asset recovery technology in combating modern vehicle theft methods such as relay attacks. By using the Radius asset recovery tracker, the stolen vehicle was located quickly, recovered without damage, and returned to its rightful owner. Without this tracker, it is unlikely that the vehicle would have ever been found.
