Recovery success: Overnight car theft in Stoke Newington

A rental Kia Nero was stolen overnight in Stoke Newington after the main tracker was disabled. Thanks to a backup Radius asset recovery tracker, it was located just hours later in Dalston and recovered the same day with police support.

Problem

In June 2025, a customer from a vehicle rental company reported an overnight theft to our 24/7 recovery hotline. Their Kia Nero had been stolen without keys from outside their address in Stoke Newington. Their wired-in tracking unit had already been disconnected at 2:25 am.

Action & Results

Luckily, they had a Radius asset recovery tracker installed as well as a hardwired device, so they still had a good chance of recovery. The vehicle location was first detected at 10:19 am in Dalston, less than 2 miles southeast of the theft venue. The investigator acted fast and departed at 10:30 am, arriving at the location at 12:02 pm. When they arrived at the scene, the vehicle was locked and unattended with no obvious damage. The police also attended to arrange a police recovery, which occurred at 3:45 pm.

Conclusion

Overall, the recovery took just over 12 hours from the first report to vehicle retrieval. This incident highlights how having multiple tracking solutions in place significantly increases the chances of a successful recovery, even when thieves attempt to disable primary devices. The combination of quick detection, speedy investigator response, and close police collaboration ensured minimal downtime and prevented further loss or damage.
