Problem

A concerned depot manager in Northamptonshire called our 24/7 theft hotline to report that a Kubota excavator and a 1-ton dumper has been stolen sometime over the weekend from a new build housing development.

Action & Results

The excavator was fitted with one of our Radius asset recovery trackers, so we set it into theft mode and dispatched the nearest Radius Investigator to the area where the theft took place. GPS location showed the machine in a wooded area, not far from the site of the theft.

When the Investigator arrived, he used the Radius tracker's homing beacon to discover the excavator partly hidden in the treeline. It was apparent that the machine had been searched and its onboard security had been bypassed.

Contacting our customer to arrange the recovery, they were pleased that it had taken just over two and half hours from their initial call to finding the excavator, saving them over £29,000 in replacement costs and well as limiting site downtime.

Unfortunately, the dumper without a Radius tracker was nowhere to be found.

Conclusion

Another quick recovery reduced the cost to our customer, both in replacing the excavator and in time lost in continuing their development project. In just over 2.5 hours, we saved them over £29,000. That the dumper stolen alongside the excavator was not tracked, and not recovered, shows just how important it is to track all your valuable assets to give you the best chance of getting them back.
