Recovery success: Road roller in Birmingham

A stolen road roller, worth £10k, was recovered after being pinpointed by the Investigations Unit within minutes. Their swift action saved the customer from a significant loss.

Problem

In March 2025, a customer's site was the target of an overnight burglary in Birmingham. When staff arrived on Monday morning, they discovered that a road roller, worth over £10k, had been stolen. The customer notified our Investigations Unit, and the police were informed.

Action & Results

Thankfully, the machine was fitted with a Radius asset recovery tracker, meaning the Investigations Unit could pinpoint the location on the map as soon as the device went live. Five minutes later, they were on their way.

Once the Investigations Unit arrived at the location, they found the area gated and abandoned, now a site for illegal fly-tipping. The tracker's signals came from some nearby woods, and the roller was found lying on its side at the top of a wooded bank.

The stolen roller had been driven by its remote cable up a steep bank towards a railway track and tipped over on its side, never arriving at its final location. We immediately informed the customer, and recovery began. Thanks to the asset tracker, the customer saved over £10k in losses, and our Investigations Unit ensured retrieving the stolen goods was as stress-free as possible.

Conclusion

This incident highlights the crucial role of asset tracking in protecting valuable equipment. Without the Investigations Unit and tracking capabilities, pinpointing such a remote spot and retrieving the stolen roller safely and efficiently would have been very difficult.
